About the Basic Education Department

The Basic Education Department of 19 Angelicum College has always been a place for learning for many students who want to experience quality education in a non-conventional way, and through the mastery learning.

The Basic Education Department was established in 1972 to serve as an alternative option for parents who do not wish to subject their children to the rigors and inflexibilities of the graded school. With its learner-centered, self-paced, and non graded system, the school is more focused on catering to the individual needs of the learners with its philosophy, “to do what is best for the learners”.

Vision

The Basic Education Department of 19 Angelicum College envisions itself as a leading provider of an alternative and transformative basic education that promotes the holistic Christian formation through the integration of academics, spiritual development and social involvement for the service of the community, the nation, the environment, and the Church.

Mission

The Basic Education Department is committed to:

  • Provide balanced curriculum that promotes the intellectual, spiritual, moral, social and physical development of the learners.
  • Equip the learners with the essential compentencies that promotes lifelong learning through mastery learning.
  • Develop the interests of the students, and cultivate their potentials to prepare them for senior high school.
  • Accompany the learners in becoming Stewards of God's creation, Engaged global citizens, Active lifelong learners and Lovers of Truth.

Objectives

The Basic Education Department aims for its learners to:

  1. Live as witnesses of the Gospel, and manifest truly Christian values and attitudes in relation to oneself and with others.
  2. Manifest a deep love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Dominic and other Dominican Saints through ardent devotion to the Holy Rosary, and commitment to Truth, Justice, Charity and Fortitude.
  3. Involve themselves actively in religious and civic welfare activities.
  4. Show the ability to learn in all situations.
  5. Acquire fluency in verbal expression.
  6. Acquire functional level of literacy and numeracy;
  7. Exhibit the ability to think critically and demonstrate creativity and innovativeness across disciplines.
  8. Demonstrate objectivity in evaluating the courses of action, and in making right judgment and mature decision.
  9. Identify and appreciate varied cultural patterns and manifest a sense of cultural identity as Filipinos.
  10. Aspire to develop continuously a well-balanced personality and physical and spiritual well-being.

Types of Learners in 19 Angelicum College

The school acknowledges that every learner is unique. As such, the school continuously enhances its curriculum to adapt to new types and emerging ways of learning.

The following types of learners exist in 19Angelicum College's Basic Education Department:

Type Description
Dependent Learner This is a type of learner who depends greatly on the learning facilitator for all learning activities and needs. These are the learners in their formative years, identified as those from Kinder to YS 4.
Independent Learner This type of learner need very minimum degree of supervision or none at all from the learning facilitators. The learner may work with ease and comfort with library research, self- study, experiments, etc. The independent learners are those who are already in the Higher Level.
